A journey to your whole being

helping you Be Kind To Your Body

I've been helping people feel better in their bodies for over 25 years.

I've done this through massage therapy and energy work, as well as through personal coaching.

Wild Places

I’ve lived in Maine for almost 30 years. I grew up outside of Washington, DC and though I love cities, the wild places, the ocean and rugged coastline and the holistic community in the northeastern-most state felt like home. My early curiosity about nutrition and foods for healing began when our family tried a diet that eliminated preservatives, artificial colorings and sweeteners to help us with focus and moods. It was effective and I learned to read labels with my mom, and grew to love shopping in health food stores.

Allergies And Hormonal Issues

I have learned from having allergies and then a series of hormonal issues, that we all have room for integrating natural remedies that might support us with fewer side effects than drugs. I have used bodywork, herbal medicines, homeopathy, nutrition, as well as allopathic (Western medicine) approaches to heal and improve my own health. I aim to to bring this knowledge and passion to the work I offer my clients.

Doctors Too Busy To See the Whole Picture

In our busy world, most medical professionals don’t have time for in-depth appointments. They do their best to treat your symptoms and give you relief but they rarely get to the cause or empower you to truly heal. I help my clients advocate for themselves and find ways to get the most out of their relationships with their medical allies. For those who also work with functional medicine specialists or naturopathic doctors, I help make their advice actionable, helping you find affordable supplements, create new habits and find healthier food options.

Your Inner Healing Resources

I will give you time and help you research ways you can continue to improve your understanding of your body, and ways to integrate all healing approaches that best support you. In my training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the founder of the school said it’s better to be the “guide by their side, not a sage on a stage.”

Health Guide

My job is to guide you back to your center. Ultimately YOU are the expert on living in your body, and together we learn to listen and understand your personal cues about what works and what doesn’t.

mixing in a touch of intuition and a good bit of joy....

When I first started my massage practice, I was on the fence between getting a degree in environmental education and training to be a massage therapist. I loved Maine, where I had just moved, and decided that being my own boss and starting my own business was the right path at that moment.

I have loved being able to fashion my practice to follow my interests and to suit the needs of my clients.

My path was like a river...

I have been interested in many aspects of natural healing all through my life... I’ve meandered in my studies from herbal remedies and healing foods, to supplements, yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, the power of affirmations, how to change our beliefs and habits…

So you know a bit about what I bring to this process beyond food and nutrition, here are some other areas I have studied:

  • Kinesis Myofascial Structural Integration (KMI) with Tom Myers (all about movement, fascia and patterns in our bodies)

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Vodder method (helpful for detox, immunity, skin health, gut health, reducing systemic inflammation)

  • Reiki, level 3 (I do distance Reiki sessions!)

  • CranioSacral Therapy training at the Craniosacral Therapy Alliance (helps the nervous system and with pain and structural patterns)

  • Hot stone massage

  • Pregnancy massage

  • Geriatric massage

  • Energy work - training in various energy healing approaches

  • for pleasure and my own self-care I enjoy yoga, dance - Qoya, Nia, Zumba, West African dance, bellydance, Pilates, hiking, walks with my dogs, gardening, cooking, making herbal tinctures and body oils, knitting, weaving, writing

Gradually, I decided I was ready to allow the flow of my life to move in a new direction.

Most of my regular clients spoke with me about their diets.

They brought me their questions about vitamins, and herbal remedies, and what to do for leg cramps or hot flashes, how to manage food sensitivities or how to get their teens to eat healthier...

The conversations often turned to ways they could take their health into their own hands.

A certified health coach.

It's the work that I've always been passionate about, even when I wasn’t certified.

I wanted to help people feel better overall. Not just from a sore muscle. That part is important, useful. But I wanted to send them home with a salve and suggestions about anti-inflammatory foods, self-care advice like stretches and guided visualizations.

I became a certified holistic health coach in 2010 to share my passion for healthy living with more people and to add value to the work I do with my bodywork clients.

So, now I get to listen and talk with people with health challenges...

People who want more energy, more well-being, more delight from their lives...

And then I help them get that. Essentially, I help them help themselves.

I promise not to overwhelm you. We take it one change at a time. One experiment or two for you to take home and try between our sessions.

How?

It's a combination of listening, knowledge and intuition - a blend of skills that I have been accumulating throughout my life and career.

Clients and I work together, and we develop their own internal wisdom regarding their personal health. It's a new skill for many. It's one that you will take with you once you learn to tap into it.

Sometimes we shop and cook together. (with FaceTime and Zoom we can do this even if in different parts of the world!)

Sometimes we talk and discuss nutritional supplementation approaches.

Sometimes we discuss lifestyle choices, values and finding the best ways to live aligned with those values.

Sometimes, we integrate light-touch bodywork, or if the client lives far from Maine it can be a distance Reiki session or guided visualization.

Any health choice you make will have ripple effects into other areas of your life. This body-mind-spirit outlook informs my work and will help you reach your health goals while growing to be your best in all areas of your life.

The entire practice is empowering.

It changes you.

It puts you back in the driver's seat of your own health.

Teens and Tweens: I also love working with teens and tweens to provide useful life skills and knowledge. Young people want to know how to support their growth and vitality, yet they sometimes would rather not learn it from their parents. My work with young people empowers them to understand the connections between what they eat and their moods, attention and overall energy levels.

Sage Body: I use the business name Sage Body as a way to reflect what my work is all about: trusting your body's wisdom. Together we can hear what your body wants you to know.

Thank you...

for reading this far.

Now you have a better idea of what I stand for:

I want to help you feel better in your body by connecting you with your own intuitive wisdom.

I believe we all have a unique beauty and light to bring to the world.

The work I do may seem focused on the health of the body - but in the grand scheme, it is truly dedicated to allowing your light to shine and giving you more spaciousness and delight in being yourself.

That is my definition of true health. It certainly leads to more happiness.

Wishing You Peace and light,

Julie
